Catalyitic Convert warning light comes on P38 4.6

Postby vulpinehunter » Sun 25 Jun 2017, 18:38:06

I have just got back from trip with caravan and the Cat con light came on then went off again.
It then came on again under load towing up hill and I seamed to lose power.
The car has done about 15k From new 1999 import from Japan.
Any ideas????

Light does go out when the car is not under any load.
Thanks

Dave

Not seen this before, but my guess would be lack of 'converstion' capacity, due to an old converter. When the engine's under low load, the catalysts are sufficient. Once the engine's working hard (caravan in tow) this is no longer the case.

I presume the car has pre- and post-converter Lambda sensors???

Back in a proper car at last!
